Clicks

Clicks are the number of times users clicked through from a search result to your site, the clearest sign a listing earned the visit.

Clicks are the count of times searchers clicked one of your results and landed on your site. In Google Search Console, clicks are the most direct measure of demand captured — the point where a search impression turns into an actual visit — and they anchor most organic-performance reporting.

How it works

Search Console counts a click when a user clicks a link that takes them to a page outside of Google’s results, deduplicated per query and result. Read clicks alongside impressions and average position: rising impressions with flat clicks points to a click-through-rate problem (weak titles, or a SERP feature absorbing the click), while flat impressions cap how many clicks are even possible. As AI Overviews and other zero-click features grow, clicks tell only part of the story, so pair them with impression and citation trends to see the full picture of visibility.

Where it applies

  • Every organic reporting stack — the headline metric of captured search demand.
  • Ecommerce and lead gen — where clicks feed directly into revenue and conversion analysis.
  • Content sites — where click trends reveal which topics earn the visit.

What matters from each seat

  • In-house — never read clicks alone; the diagnosis lives in the impressions-position-CTR relationship.
  • Brand and leadership — connect clicks to conversions and revenue, not vanity totals.
  • Agency and consulting — segment clicks by query, page, and intent to show where the real movement is.
